Christmas Recital 2009

Thank you for your efficient responses to the "Recital Date Change". Attached is a schedule for the recitals. Please let me know ASAP if the assigned times will not work.

This will be a delightful holiday performance for your students and family. Please have your students in Sunday dressy, or holiday dressy clothing. Feel free to invite relatives and friends for this performance.

Please encourage your students to polish, polish, polish. This means you should hear your students play their performance pieces at least 5 times each day (or tricky sections 5 times each day). (Sorry if you get sick of these pieces). You will enjoy them again as they perform confidently.

We will have lessons the week of recital. This will be an extra lesson which can count as a make-up lesson if we need.

Families are invited to bring a plate of cookies to share at the recital.

Thanks so much!

Marilyn

Rescheduled Christmas Piano Recital

Due to the Weber High Choir Concert being held on the night we originally had our recital scheduled, and many families being involved, I have rescheduled our Christmas Recital. The new date will be Saturday, December 19th. The times available are 3:00, 4:00 and 5:00 pm recitals. Some of the students will be playing with duet partners so we will try to schedule these students together. Please notify me as soon as possible time requests or if your student is not able to attend.

I know this is such a busy time of year. This will be a nice recital, one that grandparents, family and friends would surely enjoy attending.

New Online Music Software Games

I am so excited to announce that my studio now will offer a couple of websites that offer music games that will reinforce note reading, rhythm, melody recognition, theory, etc.

I have wanted something that would help reinforce note recognition and reading especially for beginning students and those who struggle with note reading. Something that the students could participate in daily to help them remember these skills.

At national convention last spring, I found this company "musiclearningcommunity.com", they have 700 games on line. I pay a monthly fee for the students to go online, at home to play the games. Their scores are recorded. I can see what they are accomplishing. These games will be covered by the lab fee you paid this year.

I am very impressed with the quality of games, the tutorials, the repetition, the quizzes, and more. The games cover levels 1-4. I imagine the older students will even have fun reinforcing rhythms, theory, key signatures, scales, etc. So, I encourage all students when they want to take a break from school work, to hop online, and sharpen their skills. Students will login with a username and password, which will be given them at lessons this week.

Please, please please encourage you students to use this wonderful tool.

Also, there is a fun websight called: noteableflashcards.com. This sight offers free use of a music flashcard game, which challenges the students to recognize notes quickly, it senses the notes the students are having a problem with and drills those notes. It may be better for the student who recognizes note names, and helps reinforce them. This site has options of downloading a basic software for $7.99 which gives you more than the free games. The more expensive download, I have in my studio. I think if you want more than the free games, the basic $7.99 software would be sufficient.

Please let me know how your students are doing.

Thanks so much.

Please note the calendar for the upcoming School Year

I have posted the upcoming calendar for the school year. Please mark the important dates on your calendars. I have also listed the Lab topics that we will focus on each month at the bottom of this blog. I am hoping that our concentration on these topics for repeated weeks in a row, will solidify these areas of learning for the students.

This year I have chosen not to schedule lessons during the weeks of Recitals. This will allow me the time necessary to make the many preparations for the recitals, and also allow me to be available to help struggling students if needed. I think this will help me to stay healthier this year. I hope everyone will understand. This will also free up a little stress on your students. I think it will benefit everyone.

I have scheduled a few group classes during the months that we have holidays. Please make a special effort to send your students. These classes are as important as the private lessons, and much preparation goes into these classes. Thank you for observing these dates, and sending your students.

I am loving the communication with email. I appreciate everyone's prompt payments each month. I think the electronic statements have created miracles in my studio. Last year was the best year ever for prompt payments. Yeah!!!!!

I appreciate the patience of everyone throughout the summer. Summer vacation is a challenging time for lessons. But, for those who were able to continue through the summer, I feel like we accomplished a lot at lessons. Hooray for you dedicated students!

I would love to start posting pictures of students, or spotlight any accomplishments on this blog. Parents please keep me informed of special events that your students are involved in, and also email me any pictures that would be fun to see on this blog.

Just for you information, I just received notification from the AIM committee, the AIM fees were increased to $20 this year. I was aware of an upcoming increase, and thought I had heard it would be $16. So, I will have to collect an additional $4 from the AIM students. Part of these fees are going into a Scholarship fund for AIM students. So, those dedicated students who make it into the FAIM Group, will be eligible for these scholarships.

I will send quarterly updates on your students music account. Now that everything is being submitted electronically, I am hoping to create family music lists that I can look to see what music might be available at home for the students. We will see if this might cut some costs for the families on music.

Here we go, we are ready to tackle Fall Semester of Piano!

Fall 2009 Piano Update

It looks like another school year is upon us. I am looking forward to getting back on schedule, working hard and watching each of the students learn and grow. This blog will be dedicated to housing information updates, calanders, spotlights on students and events. This will be a gradual process as I learn these procedures.
